Learn the Basics of Islam

 

 

ABOUT THE CLASS

 

This is a beginner-level class for adults designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the key principles, beliefs, and practices of Islam. This course aims to create a respectful and inclusive learning environment where participants can gain insights into our beautiful religion. 

 

This class is taught by Sheikh AbdulMuizz Mailmar.

Introduction to Islam:

Brief historical overview

The concept of monotheism (Tawhid)

Overview of major Islamic sects and traditions

 

The Quran:

The central religious text of Islam

Understanding the structure and content

Significance in Islamic faith and practice

 

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH):

Life and teachings of the Prophet

The importance of the Sunnah (traditions) and Hadiths

 

Five Pillars of Islam:

Shahada (Declaration of faith)

Salat (Prayer)

Zakat (Charity)

Sawm (Fasting during Ramadan)

Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca)

 

Islamic Worship and Rituals:

Understanding the significance of prayer in Islam

Rituals associated with daily life and special occasions

 

Islamic Ethics and Morality:

Importance of ethical behavior (Akhlaq)

Concepts of justice, compassion, and humility in Islam

 

Islamic Calendar and Holidays:

Overview of the Islamic lunar calendar

Celebration of major Islamic festivals

 

Diversity in Islam:

Recognizing the cultural and theological diversity within the Muslim community

Common misconceptions and stereotypes

 

Islam in the Modern World:

Challenges and opportunities faced by Muslims today

 

Throughout the course, participants will engage in discussions, group activities, and have the opportunity to ask questions to deepen their understanding of Islam. This class is designed for individuals with little to no prior knowledge of Islam, fostering a welcoming atmosphere for diverse perspectives and fostering intercultural understanding.
